The first step, when you see that black screen after repeatedly pressing the power button, is to not panic. It could be something as simple as the laptop charger. Try using a different one if you have one, or borrow a friends which they know works. Another reason could be whats called a "power buildup". Simply unplug the charger, remove the batter, and hold the power button down for 7 seconds (make it 10, as we know you might be counting a little faster). If you, or someone else, has spilt a liquid of some description- you are welcome to panic a little bit more. If the liquid was just water- then hopefully you turned the laptop off, unplugged the charger and battery, and left it in a warm dry place. If you did, then you have drastically increased your chances for the laptop to recover in a day or two. Don't be inpatient to test it.
If the liquid was not water, or you tried turning it on multiple times after it turned off, you may want to refer to our Data Recovery section.
If you computer turns on, but doesn't get to the login screen, there could be a few reasons. Assuming you have tried rebooting and checked the cables in the computer are all securely pushed in, your operating system could of been corrupted.
Repairs are possible, but not guaranteed. Backing up all data from the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system could help you avoid any additional hardware costs. Otherwise you might be looking at a new hard drive at best, or another part of the hardware at worst.
