For many of us, our computer is a necessity we cannot do without. Often however, our computers make it very difficult for us to appreciate them when staring blankly at an eternal "Updating Windows" message, or a spinning wheel when trying to open a single document.
There are many reasons for a temperamental PC or laptop. Think of your computer like a house. Over time that house gets messy and you have to spend time putting things back in order, or adapting so less mess is generated. The same can be said for a computer. If you maintain it, know how to stay organised and tidy, it will maintain its efficiency a lot longer.
Just like a house, you can only do cleaning for so long before you need to replace the carpet and repaint the walls. With a computer, you would simply remove everything and start with a fresh install of your operating system (Windows 7, Windows 10, iOS 10.14, iOS 10.15). This can be a longer process, and you need to make sure you have everything backed up, with licenses for all of your software. The results are always worth it however, with a PC or laptop that feels like its only just come out of the box.
Be careful not to download any programs you see online who advertise to "Speed Up" your computer. At best, the majority are bloatware (programs that are unnecessary and slow your PC further) or at worst- they are malicious viruses and malware under the guise of a PC Speed Up application. A common and well- known program that could help is called CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com). Give it a try and see if it makes a difference.
If you wish to reinstall your Operating System for that "fresh out of the box" speed, be sure to follow detailed instructions and back up everything onto a separate hard drive before you begin. Once its gone, there's no going back.
We can provide both sort term boosts in regards to cleaning up the PC and removing unnecessary programs, or we can go down the Operating System rebuild and get your computer firing on all cylinders again. Get in touch and we can access your individual situation and build an affordable plan that suits your needs.
Often when someone reaches this stage, they start to consider buying a new computer. This can be an expensive endeavour, so there may be ways to delay this inevitability.
Firstly, your computer could be using an old HDD (Hard Disk Drive). This is where you computer stores the majority of its information. They were fantastic for generations, but over the last decade they have been left by the wayside with the new SSD (Solid State Drives). We won't bore you with the details, but its like trading in your Nissan Micra for a Porsche, or your poodle in for a Timber Wolf. All achievable for under £100.
Other factors could be causing a bottleneck in your computers ability to meet your needs. Everything from out of date drivers, slow network speed and even other parts of the computer just not living up to today's demands.
We will take all this into consideration and make sure you are able to make informed decisions.
